Deep cleanings may be recommended to some patients. If plaque and tartar are left on teeth, they provide the right conditions for bacteria to thrive. These bacteria irritate the gums, which then bleed more easily. You may notice this if you are brushing your teeth or eating, and sometimes your gums may bleed. Also, you may observe bad breath, swollen or receding gums. These are signs of gum diseases called Gingivitis and Periodontitis. To stop gum disease from progressing, we advise periodontal therapy or deep cleaning. This gets rid of the bacteria in the gums and provides the necessary conditions for healing to occur.
